Four

4

1

For four years I’ve wondered what it would be like to share my life with someone again. There were many mishaps; many misshapen turns. I. I have crashed and burned so many times. I have fallen hard, and realized that skinned knees were better than broken hearts; that love doesn’t come easy; that just because you think you feel something does not mean the other person feels it, too.

I was deadest on spending the rest of my life alone. I was fine with it. I was tired. To be honest, I did not think much of you before—then you came crashing back into my life, and changed it in more ways than one. From Clementine erasing Joel from her mind, Elvis and Anabelle saving each other, to reading that shady, crazy book—we shared the most profound memories; we laughed, had adventures, started something—whatever it was. Because really, it didn’t have a name for a while. But that didn’t matter.

You often told me how much you loved me. You wrote poems and musings that no one ever did for me, and it scared me. It scared me because I knew that if I gave my heart away, I would give all of it.

But isn’t that what love’s supposed to be about? Or so they say.

For years, I thought life was just going to be the way it was—mornings spent alone, watching endless movies and television shows, going to bed late, late at night with no hand to hold.

I was filled with lies, and I consumed them. I lived in them. I became a huge walking lie until one day, we both decided it had to end. It was not easy, but it was our choice.

It was far, far from my fairytale. But it was our story. And I liked it that way.

2

We had fun—and that would be an understatement.

Late nights in the city, the rain on our faces, our bodies drenched but our hearts happy. Days walking in the park, under the trees, under the stars. All those dreams we shared. All the memories we made.

I was so used to being alone, but then I realized there’s warmth that stuffed bears and bunnies wouldn’t give. There’s a certain kind of happiness that comes from laying next to the one you love, even when you just hold hands and listen to your own breaths; the kind that makes you want to stay in bed. The kind that makes you realize what home is.

They say that when love is good, it is magic. And it’s true: days become better, nights no longer feel lonely. You have someone who’s your other half, not because both of you are broken, but because you’re whole enough to share your life with someone else. And that in itself is magical—more than any other magic can bring.

We built our own furry family, we tried to enjoy life with whatever we had.

We were living our life, and we thought that was enough.

3

There comes a time in relationships when you begin to question things. You wonder who started it all; you wonder if it matters; you wonder if this is what it’s supposed to be. It happens. It cannot be helped.

I was used to being alone, so I had to struggle being surrounded by people all the time. At times you think I didn’t try. But I did. But like most of the things in my life, it just wouldn’t fit. But you did, no matter how different we are—and would always be. Some things just would not change.

From all our happy days stemmed days when fights and arguments became prevalent. When tears do not seem enough to convey the pain; when shouts and screams don’t seem enough to end the noise inside.

There are days when I know we’re both confused. Is it possible that you still love each other when there are days that you just want to end it? Or is it just in your head?

They say that love is not always enough. And it’s true.

Love isn’t always enough to cover certain things that hurt. Love is not always enough to let each day pass by.

But then again…do you really wish for the alternative?

4

Four years tomorrow. Four years now.

Sometimes, you do not even feel the years anymore.

Nothing is perfect, of this I am sure.

Sometimes, I would sit and wonder exactly when things have changed, because I know I have. And you have, too. It makes me wonder about that first year, when we were both so positive; when no matter how I’ve seen the harsh realities of life, my idealism was still there.

You often tell me that you miss that person; the person I used to be.

What I don’t tell you is that I miss the part of the person you were, too. What I don’t tell you is that I miss the person I’ve been, too. I don’t know where she went, but I believe she’s still there.

I miss who we’ve been.

Because relationships are one thing—but love is another.

Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, they say. So take my hand. Let’s not fail.

Wonder

o_1af1t67b2bmrslrpqg8qf1uv87_new.jpg

It was just a normal day; you’re doing whatever the hands of fate have strung your way, and asked you to do.

It was a normal day—and it still is, but you couldn’t get that photo out of your head. That photo that a certain website reminded you of; a photo of years gone by, spent with people you no longer talk to.

You wonder how he’s doing—that old friend who had your back and nursed your wounds years ago, back when you were spiraling out of control. That friend who was there for you when you felt you had no one else—even if you actually had. Well, it didn’t matter, because he was the best of the rest of them. Head on his shoulders, your hand in his—you felt like everything was possible. That if someone could feel safe and secure, it was within his arms, and with his heart.

You remember car rides with him, your hair flowing in the wind; wondering how it would be like to watch fireworks in one of those overlooking spots; wondering how life would be like a year on; wondering—just wondering. And yet, it was enough.

You wonder how it all ended, or if it even really began in the first place. You wonder whether all those words meant something, or if they were just in passing. You remembered holding on to his arms, knowing he’d keep you safe from the firecrackers you were so scared of. You remembered the laughter; you remembered the tears—especially that time when you broke down under flickering lights, and the harsh fall of raindrops; each drop leaving a scar in your heart. You remembered all those times you’d talk about dreams and nightmares; broken hearts and broken promises. It was all so easy. It was all so fine.

You wonder how it stopped—because you wouldn’t be thinking of this now if it went on, and on, and on—like the other things in your life. You wonder who stopped talking to whom first; who didn’t reciprocate the messages. You remember how hurt you were. You remember all the questions you asked.

Years later, you no longer wonder why. Yet, you couldn’t help but wish that he stayed—that whatever you had stayed. Because you’re so used to loss—you’ve had it all your life. But whenever you see old photos of that time, and whenever you think of him—that person who had your back once upon a time, and who was so good to you, you found hope again—you couldn’t help but feel this strange stinging sensation in your heart. You couldn’t help but feel sad. You couldn’t help but wonder.

Favorite Quotes from “A SECOND CHANCE”

ascquotes

If you know me, you’d know Bea and John Lloyd is one of my favorite Pinoy loveteams (and believe me, there are only a few lol) and ONE MORE CHANCE is one of my favorite movies of all time (actually even bought the novelization, but that’s another story…), so obviously, I watched A SECOND CHANCE (and dragged my boyfriend along).

This is actually the first Pinoy movie I’ve seen in the cinema in… 3 years? The last one I watched was another film of these two (The Mistress). I really wanted to see this film because it really has been too long since the first movie (2007), and of course, I’ve grown up, too (was a college sophomore then, and now I’m in my *gasp* late twenties). I really thought the film depicted the reality of relationships (especially when you’re married/have moved in together), so while I still like the first movie better, I appreciated this one for being realistic–and yeah, yeah, I did shed a few tears.

Anyway, let me share some of my favorite lines from the film with y’all:

“Why is it so easy for you to see the worst in me?”

“Why do you make it so hard for me to see the best in you?”

giphy (4).gif

“I lost him. I lost the man you married. Can you honestly love a failure?”

tumblr_lwf3xvDL0A1r2yuwk.gif

Seriously, though…people really change in relationships; it cannot be helped.

“Your love story is what you make it.”

Quinn_Fabray_-_GIF

And my favorite:

“Maybe, it’s brave to ask ‘What if?’, but maybe, it’s braver to embrace ‘What is’.”

tumblr_m5ftoi3RAQ1r7ifqv.gif

It’s true. Sometimes, we just fail to appreciate “what is”. And I am quite guilty of that. It’ll take time to really appreciate life for what it is–but you have to. Otherwise, you won’t be happy, even once.

She Flies with Faeries Reviews: LEARNING TO FALL by Mina V. Esguerra

learning to fall

Title: Learning to Fall

Author: Mina V. Esguerra

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

Grab your copy HERE

“Go out with a stereotypical romance novel hero WHO ISN’T YOUR TYPE.”

Avid reader and art student Steph is participating in a monthly blog challenge to Live Like Fiction, and this was the task for October. When Grayson, former co-captain of her university rugby team, walks into her class, she knows it’s meant to be – she has to go out with this guy. Even if she’s never been attracted to big, hunky, athletic types. With Grayson’s “player” reputation off the field, Steph thinks he’ll be good for one date that’ll be worth blogging about, and that’s it.

But you know how it goes: Soon, it becomes more than just one date – and Steph and Grayson are caught up in “living like fiction.” How long can they keep playing their roles before reality steps in?

What do you get when you mix a hot rugby player with an artistic book blogger? You get a sexy, scorching combination, that is.

LEARNING TO FALL tells the story of Steph, a book blogger slash Arts student who meets this hot, sexy, and witty guy. Well, hot, sexy, and witty guy is really not a problem, except Steph’s distracted enough already.

However, fate comes into play when she joins this monthly blog challenged entitled Live Like Fiction. What does she have to do? Well, go out with someone who isn’t her type, that is.

I have to say, Grayson is like, one of the hottest love interests I’ve ever encountered in a book. Not to mention, he has the right brand of humor to go along with it. I also enjoyed his banter with Steph: how he almost always catches her off-guard, and how he challenges her to be a better student, and a better person.

Sure, you may have heard of the one date and it’s over trope before, but what makes this different is the fact that Steph is not one of those flaky, weak characters. She is strong on her own, and she knows how to deal with her man. Of course, there were times when her complexities hit her, but that’s just a normal part of life–which is another thing I loved about this book: how it’s almost unreal, and yet, somehow, you feel like it actually could happen.

Here’s another thing: this book will challenge you. I mean, it will keep you thinking about what could happen in your life if you actually take chances that you’re often to shy, or too hesitant to take. It’s not just about blog challenges; it’s about those important moments in your life; the ones that matter, even without looking like it in the beginning. It’ll remind you that in life, you do have to make decisions—your own decisions–because you could actually be in control of your life.

You’re the one who makes your life what it is–and that’s the best thing you could take away from Steph and Grayson.

LEARNING TO FALL certainly ended with a bang. Read it all the way through. Who knows? Maybe, you’d find your own Grayson, too!

She Flies with Faeries Reviews: ANOTHER DAY by David Levithan

adayreview

Another Day (Every Day, #2)

Title: Another Day

Author: David Levithan

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

Every day is the same for Rhiannon. She has accepted her life, convinced herself that she deserves her distant, temperamental boyfriend, Justin, even established guidelines by which to live: Don’t be too needy. Avoid upsetting him. Never get your hopes up.

Until the morning everything changes. Justin seems to see her, to want to be with her for the first time, and they share a perfect day—a perfect day Justin doesn’t remember the next morning. Confused, depressed, and desperate for another day as great as that one, Rhiannon starts questioning everything. Then, one day, a stranger tells her that the Justin she spent that day with, the one who made her feel like a real person…wasn’t Justin at all.

In this enthralling companion to his New York Times bestseller Every Day, David Levithan tells Rhiannon’s side of the story as she seeks to discover the truth about love and how it can change you.

***

I love David Levithan, and I’ll basically read anything he puts out there.

However, when I heard that there was a sequel to EVERY DAY, I was kind of unsure because that was one hell of an AMAZING book, and sometimes, when you create sequels to things like that, they fail.

Still, I bought it. I’m a sucker for a good love story, be it HEA, or without it. I like it when books tug on my heartstrings and make me think, just like EVERY DAY did.

Anyway, ANOTHER DAY is basically EVERY DAY, but in Rhiannon’s point of view. Knowing that, should you be disappointed? Should you expect for something else? Should you expect for something extremely new? Of course not. Again, you have to understand that this is a retelling of their story, and you know what? I enjoyed it.

aday1

What I loved about ANOTHER DAY is the fact that finally, we got to hear Rhiannon’s side of the story. We heard about her woes, her frustrations–we saw things the way she saw them, and not just in A’s perspective. I personally believe that this story needed to be told, because their world is something different and there are just lots of facets to it.

One of the best things I liked about this book is the fact that it drew me in, right from the start. I was back in A and Rhiannon’s world–mostly Rhiannon’s, this time. I liked seeing her heart break. I liked hearing things from her. AND OMYGOD THOSE LINES!

aday3

Because the truth is that really, EVERY DAY is not just A’s story. Sure, A’s the one with the unconventional life; one who’s not like us in any which way, but it was Rhiannon’s life he entered, and you couldn’t just take that out of the equation.

Some people hate Rhiannon because she could be flaky. On the contrary, would you actually just throw everything away and forget about real life, if you were her? She’s someone who took a risk, and I like that, even though she could be flaky.

Because love’s like that, you know? You decide. You make choices. But sometimes, you get to think ‘What if?” You wonder whether you’re right, or whether there’s more to it or so. And that’s what makes Rhiannon real.

The heart of this book is in Rhiannon–and how she deals with what’s handed to her.

aday2

Do I believe their story is over?

I really don’t think so. Maybe, we’d learn more. Maybe not.

And if we do, I’d still be reading. ANOTHER DAY is a story with lots of heart, and if you need a good pull on your heartstrings, pick this book up and read!

Because You Can Never Be Prepared Enough and He Has to Run Free

No matter how hard you try, you can never be prepared enough for death. You say you're okay, say you're fine, say it's going to be fine, but there are some losses that are bigger than the others, far wider than what you could grasp.

Sometimes, you have all these dreams and they could be shattered just because life throws itself at you and you have to deal with it. Sometimes, you have all these plans and because of death, they'll never come to life again.

They say you have to let the ones you love go because sometimes, that's the only way for them to be happy and free. And you try, because you know that there's no other way--but you're left with a hole in your heart and the feeling that you'll never be okay again.

But of course, you'll be. Sooner or later, you'll be.

But things will never be the same again.

Why do the ones you love have to go when you're not ready, anyway?

When exactly are you going to be ready, anyway?

October, Baby: 25 songs from The OC -- Birthday Countdown List #1

Alas, it's October--my favorite month of the year! weeee. Why? Well, for the simple reason that it's my birthday month (LOL, sooo childish!), but really, I've always loved October.  I like October Weather; I like thinking that it's autumn (though it's not that big in the Philippines), and that soon, it'll be Christmas--but it'll be my birthday first! HA!

Autumn landscape - stock photo
I know, I know, I'm OOOOOOLD but I don't see that as a reason not to celebrate one's birthday. I believe that during your birthday month, you can try to be as happy as can be--and be excited, even just for that little big thing known as your birthday. Mine falls on the 18th (so I basically only have 17 days left of being 25 and then I'll be ancient...) So, I thought I'd do a countdown of some sorts (let's see if I can keep up with this daily) of the things I love, things that matter, and whatever else you can think of.

My first post for my Birthday Countdown List would be a list of the 25 BEST SONGS FROM THE OC!

If you don't know yet, THE OC is my favorite TV Series of all time. I've seen it over and over and it just never gets old. It made me dream of waking up to the smell of coffee and bagels, seeing shows at The Bait Shop, eating Chili Fries, living in THE OC, and possibly meeting my own Seth Cohen! HAHA! I was obsessed with this show (still am). One good thing about THE OC (Aside from Seth, Summer, Ryan, and Marissa) is the awesome, awesome, ultra awesome soundtrack. So, without further adieu, here's...

THE 25 BEST SONGS FROM THE OC:

1. Youth Group - Forever Young
2. Nada Surf - If You Leave
3. Joseph Arthur - Honey and the Moon
4. Finley Quay - Dice
5. Matt Pond PA - Champagne Supernova
6. Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
7. Phantom Planet - California
8. Rachael Yamagata - Worn Me Down
9. Jason Scwartzman - The West Coast
10. Imogen Heap -  Hide and Seek
11. Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
12. Rooney - Terrible Person
13. Coldplay - Fix You
14. Jem - Maybe I'm Amazed
15. Dios Malos - You got me all wrong
16. U2 - Sometimes you can't make it on your own
17. The Perishers - Trouble Sleeping
18. The Killers - Mr. Brightside
19. Beck - True Love will find you in the end
20. The Dandy Warhols - We Used to be Friends
21. Alexi Murdoch - All of my days
22. Mates of State - California
23. Rachael Yamagata - Reason Why
24. Mazzy Star - Into Dust
25. Patrick Park - Life is a song

I linked most of the songs to some of the best moments in THE OC where they were used so all those FEEEEELLLSSSS could be unleashed.

That's it for today! Toodles!

Stay the Night: Sneak Peak + a little Collab surprise!

So, I told you guys last night that I'm working on something for #BuqoSteamyReads, right? Well, tonight I finally started working on it, and even came up with a title (Stay the Night)--which I'm not sure if I should stick with, but we'll see, we'll see...

Anyway, here's a little sneak peak of what I've been writing...

Okay, kids, sorry for corrupting your precious minds. HAHA!

Oh, and another fun fact: Miss Anne Plaza, author of "In Over her Head" and I decided to make our Alpha Males BFFs since they both own a resort! Tee-hee! This is going to be so much fun!

So, there, watch out for this soon and Thank You! :)

Work in Progress

Will start working on my #BuqoSteamyReads story this week! (If you're wondering what #BuqoSteamyReads is, it's an online class headed by the awesome Miss Mina V. Esguerra. You can read more about it HERE, and check us out on Twitter and Facebook). Playlist above is something I made for inspiration... :)

So, each member of the class was assigned to write a steamy story in different story tropes. I was assigned the trope "The One that got away" and my first reaction was, "Weeee! I LOVE it!". I like the complexity of it, and I think the characters that I have in mind will work well with the plot.

We were also asked to choose the heal level that we would like to incorporate in our stories. I was torn between levels 2 and 3, and I chose 3, which means "sexy/sizzling" so yeah all the sexy Grey books that I read will finally be put to use. tee-hee.

I've actually written something a while back, and it's here: (I know, the handwriting sucks hahaha and yeah I kinda speak to myself...Why not? :))

Short progress but will work on it more later. And yeah, it's yet untitled, but it will be the story of Dianna  and Dylan, old flames who crossed paths again after Dianna ran away from her wedding day. Why did she run, and how would the fact that she saw Dylan again will affect her life right now? That's what you'll know later ;)

So yes, I'm back to writing Fiction! After 2 months or so. Let's do this! :)

Why You and I Work

Sometimes, it's so hard to see how you and I could work. How you and I could jive. Because we're two opposite ends of the spectrum. Because you hate fastfood and I love it. Because you can cook and I can't. Because you're more willing to share than I am. Because sometimes, we don't laugh at the same things. Because we got bills to pay and we got nothing figured out (right. Taylor Swift reference. sorry.) Because sometimes, I want to just go out and eat and you want to stay home and cook. Because sometimes, we couldn't get each other. Because you're you and I am me.

But there are days. There are days when I can see why. There are days when our worlds merge as one; when you and I become.

You and I work because sometimes, when we talk late, late at night and  just blurt out, "I'm hungry" or "I want (insert name of food here), we'd end up just laughing about it.
Because we talk late, late at night. period.
Because you cook for me and make me try different dishes without having them cost too much.
Because even if I'm dysfunctional and crazy (I admit that), you're there.
Because even if I don't get you sometimes, I'm here.
Because nothing was ever the same when you came.
Because I was never the same when we happened.
Because.
Just because.

Because I love you.
And because you love me, too.

September.

Two weeks gone and this month already has so much promise. I've never been a fan of September. I don't know, there's just something about the month that spells...sad. But this year, it's like, September opened up so many possibilities--both good and bad.
I've been writing a lot of articles this month and to be honest, I feel like it's the first month this year where I felt like...I'm finally trying to rebuild my life again after the mess that last year was. It feels good, you know? To feel like I'm able to do something again. To feel like I'm being productive again and that I feel better about myself again.
Also, I've started doing book reviews for some book tours and it feels great. More lined up soon.
But of course there are some sad moments about September, too. Like, the fact that we lost three kittens this month. I've never lost such a number of pets in a month, more so in a week. To be honest, I still haven't moved on from that. Some nights, I still feel like crying because those pets have been my life for the past couple of months and then just like that, they died. It's never easy to deal with. Sometimes, I catch myself still waiting for them to come back. Hoping and praying that they'd come back. When you love someone, even if they're just pets, it's never easy to let them go.
Maybe one day I'd forget, but right now, I still can't.

Rest easy, little cat.

Last night, one of our kittens, Tulpo died.
He lived quite a short life (barely three months), but he sure made a mark in our lives. In my life.
See, he was a sweet, mischievous, but really nice cat...except for the occasional turds, but you know...

We tried our best to take care of him. I swear, it's like, having a baby (although I never really had one)--like, you pour out so much of your heart and soul into this cat. Give him time. Feed him. Play with him. Plus, the fact that you're with him everyday.

He was great, you know? He was really energetic...and then for some reason, he just stopped eating,s atrted getting thinner--and then just two days back, he was eating again and we had so much hope that he's finally getting better. And yesterday, he was eating, too...and then...poof, just like that he became so weak. So weak he couldn't even stand. We had to just lay him down, and we stayed beside him until his last breath. It was awful. It was...heartbreaking.

I know, he's just a kitten. Barely even a cat. But still, he made our lives a little brighter, a little better. And for that, he'll always be missed.

Rest easy, Tulpo. We'll miss you. We already do. And you know we'll take care of your siblings.

Fourteen.

Fourteen months.
426 days.
10,226 hours.

Our love.
You.
I.
It's big.
It's complicated.
It's fragile.
Too many details. There are too many details.

Fractions of us.
You, Me.
This love.
It's bigger than us.
Bigger than the sum of our parts.

Some days it seems small.
Some days it can't be seen at all.
Some days it's hard.
Some days it doesn't seem to be.

Our love.
You and Me.

Let's bright it back to where it started.
Forget the hurt, forget the hate.
Collide, let's collide.
You and I.

Our love.

Fights, yelling, endless banter.
End it, end it, that's what we say.
Yet we stick together.
Like glue, like Velcro.

We're scared, we're scarred.
We both are.
Yet here we are.
You and I.

Fourteen months.
426 days.
You, and I.
